[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn blinked as the machine addressed him. Part of him had grown up reading stories of robots and monsters. Now, in what seemed to be only a few short weeks, he had encountered both. The thing before him fit his mental picture of a robot perfectly. Now, to deal with the thing.
He nodded as Visignis identified the machine. "If you mean to do Visignis harm, you will have to go through myself and others to do so. If Visignis could hold you one of you off by himself before, I doubt you'd be able to take on all of us. Leave, now, or you will be destroyed."[/glow]

[glow=red,2,500]Pyrodeus nodded. "Spoken like a true Warrior Angel," Pyrodeus said, standing next to Taelyrn and putting himself between the robot and Visignis.
"Well, you heard him," Pyrodeus told the machine, his sword pointed at it. "Be gone."[/glow]

SCRAP's head twitched to one side, thoroughly confused by actions of the two newcomers. The high-pitched whining died down, then shut off entirely. The robot lowered its arm, its eyes returning to their normal, fluorescent green.
"QUERY: WHY DO YOU DEFEND THE TARGET? SUCH BEHAVIOR IS ILLOGICAL. EVEN KNOWING THAT THE ACT OF DOING SO COULD RESULT IN HARM TO YOURSELF, YOU DO NOT RELENT. RATHER, YOU INTENSIFY YOUR EFFORTS. WHY?"

[glow=purple,1,800]"Because we love him," Viviana said, having regained the majority of her motor skills. She limped to the front line, standing between and slightly behind Taelyrn and Visignis.
She turned to Visignis, and opened her fist where his glowing ring had been clenched. "Yes," she said to him before turning around and sliding the ring onto her left hand.
The moment she did so the gold band, too large when she slipped it on, shrank to fit her finger perfectly. She felt a tingle, but it quickly passed. She looked at the robot and drew her shotgun, drawing a bead on the machine. [/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn nodded at Viviana's words, taking a deep breath. Without taking his eyes off of the machine, he spoke. "Now go, robot. Leave our family alone."
Taelyrn mentally crossed his fingers. The machine seemed to have backed down, but it hadn't left yet. He wondered why a machine was taking such an interest in them, but chalked it up to the thing's programming.[/glow]

SCRAP stood there for a moment more, its head twitching a few times. Then, without a word it turned and walked away. Inside its mind, new connections were forming again. Its databanks defined 'love' as an emotion, something it, and its kind, were devoid of. That made them superior, did it not?
Tests would have to be run. Alternate methods of fulfilling its programming would have to be explored. It needed a human. And as soon as it found the trail, it would know just where to find one.

[glow=orange,1,600]The moment the robot was gone, Visignis holstered his revolver and ran toward Viviana, embracing her.
"Viv, it sounds cliche but you made me the happiest man on Etrah," he told her. He then turned to look at Pyrodeus and Taelyrn.
"I'm really touched," he said. "Granted, that robot was a peon compared to either of you, but you didn't know that. You just jumped into harm's way, willing to take a bullet for me without thinking twice. I can't even tell you how grateful I am for that."[/glow]

[glow=purple,1,800]Viviana smiled, comfortable in Visignis' arms. As unexpected as the proposal was, she certainly was excited about it.
Suddenly, that excitement clicked into place somewhere in her head. "Oh my God, Visignis, now we have to plan a wedding! What do you wanna do? I know I always wanted to get married on a beach at sunset."
That simple sentence opened the flood gates. "Now we have to find a caterer, get a cake, make a guest list - " she paused. "Visignis, all of my friends are long since dead. Most of them were in their forties when the two of us first met."
She sighed sadly, resting her head on his chest as she stared at nothing. "Guess it'll be a small wedding," she coldly quipped.[/glow]

[glow=orange,1,600]Visignis smiled. "Don't worry, Viv," he said. "Sure, it'll be a small wedding, but I prefer it that way, actually. A hundred people, most of them friends of friends of friends, coming over to drink my booze is no kind of reception in my mind."
He looked at Pyrodeus. "Father, is there any chance you could get Cryodivus to perform the ceremony?" he asked.[/glow]

[glow=red,2,500]Pyrodeus smiled, but his smile carried the faintest twinge of sadness. "Sure," he said. "If you want Cryodivus to perform the ceremony, I'm sure he'd be honored to do so."[/glow]

[glow=red,2,500]Pyrodeus seemed genuinely taken aback by the offer. "You want me to be your best man?"
He grinned from ear to ear. "I'd love to. Nothing would make me happier."[/glow]

[glow=purple,1,800]Viviana smiled. "Well, I really can't think of a maid of honor, but if something pops into my head I'll let you know."
She then looked at Taelyrn. "I know we've only known each other for all of a few hours, Taelyrn, but both of my parents are dead. Would you be willing to give me away at the altar?"[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn's jaw dropped momentarily, before he noticed and closed his mouth. The question had caught him completely by surprise, and he didn't have to try in order for that to show. He tried to ask a question, but all that came out was a series of unintelligible stutters, broken by the occasional breath.
After a moment of this, Taelyrn stopped himself, taking a deep breath. He smiled, a slight blush coloring his cheeks. His voice calm and unbroken, he answered, "I'd be honored, Viviana."[/glow]

[glow=purple,1,800]Viviana smiled sweetly at Taelyrn. "Thank you," she said.
She then looked down at her engagement ring, still literally glowing. "One more question for you, mister Angel of Light," she said without looking up. "Why did this thing send a tingling sensation through me when I put it on?"
She looked back up at Taelyrn. "I only ask because this looks like your handiwork. If Pyrodeus or Visignis did it, the diamond would smolder, not glow."[/glow]
