[glow=white,1,500]An orb of white light swelled into being on the boardwalk in downtown Thoncir. After a moment of shedding its bright glow along the street, the orb shattered harmlessly, revealing its two passengers.
Taelyrn opened his eyes, looking around the shops in the area, noting that a few had opened up since his last visit here. Maybe Tresdos had managed to have some positive effect on things, after all...[/glow]

[glow=purple,1,800]Viviana took her hand away from her eyes, and saw herself on the Thoncir boardwalk.
"No way, we came to the boardwalk?" she said, looking around. Her eyes fell on a nearby cotton candy stand.
"Ooh, I have to get some cotton candy," she said, heading toward the booth. "One, please," she said, and the man behind the stand grabbed a bag of cotton candy from the rack in the ceiling.[/glow] "Three coins," he said.
[glow=purple,1,800]"Damn," Viviana muttered, opening the coin purse. "This place used to be a lot cheaper. Of course, that was 50 years ago..."
"Dammit," she said, after rifling through the purse a bit longer. "He actually put a hundred 1,000-coin pieces in here," Vivivana said to Taelyrn, shaking her head. The man behind the counter's jaw fell wide open.
"Okay, looks like we're heading for the dress store," she said to Taelyrn. "I know there used to be a nice one at the corner of Layton and 51st," she said, her attention now turned to the man running the cotton candy store. "Is it still there?"[/glow] "Yeah, and it's still as expensive as shit," he said. "You're gonna need that fortune in a bag if you want a dress there."
[glow=purple,1,800]Viviana smiled. "Good thing I have it, then," she said. SHe turned and looked back at Taelyrn. "Layton and 51st is about 50 blocks from the boardwalk," she said. "Can you fly us there?"[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn smiled. "Shouldn't be a problem." He spoke to the man at the cotton candy stand, getting the direction they'd need, and then he turned back to Viviana, extending a hand towards her.
"Hold on tight. I should be able to use my abilities to keep you flying just through physical contact, but one can never be too safe." That, and I've never tried anything like this, so I'm not entirely sure it'll work...[/glow]

[glow=purple,1,800]Viviana looked surprised. "It's that easy? Really?" she said, grasping tightly onto Taelyrn's hand. "Cool. Okay, let's fly to Akemi's Boutique."[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn mentally crossed his fingers, gathering light from the area into a solid platform beneath Viviana's feet as he flapped his wings, sending the two of them into the air. After a few moments of struggling, Taelyrn found an easy way to control the platform, keep it underneath Viviana. With that problem solved, he started flying in the direction of Akemi's.
The trip took less than a minute, and the pair were soon slowly coming back down to the ground, landing across the sidewalk from the Boutique. Taelyrn relaxed a bit too early, however, and the platform underneath Viviana disappeared while she was still about a foot above the ground. He grimaced, helpless to watch as she dropped the short distance.[/glow]

[glow=purple,1,800]Totally unprepared for the sudden drop, Viviana stumbled upon impact before regaining her balance. She looked at Taelyrn, miffed.
"Well, at least you didn't break the light plate 50 feet in the air," she said, a trace of annoyance on her face.
She looked across the street, and saw the Akemi's Boutique sign. The store looked open, people were coming and going, though not very many.
Viviana began walking toward the store. She turned to look at Taelyrn. "What did Visignis mean when he told you not to cut off my hand?" she asked.[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn blushed, his tone both embarrassed and apologetic. "My apologies for the fall. I'm still fairly new to a great deal of my abilities. It won't happen again, I assure you."
Taelyrn followed Viviana across the street, stopping in his tracks at her sudden question. He sighed. "How much has he told you?" he asked, matching his pace to hers.[/glow]

[glow=purple,1,800]Viviana shrugged. "Most of the story, I suppose. He said a man, at least at the time, named Taelyrn cut off his hand in a fight with a guy named Baalaose. He was actually really calm about it, a lot more calm than I would be talking about a guy that cut my hand off."
She then realized she was probably coming off as hostile. She did that a lot, whether she meant to or not. "I'm not accusing you, or anything. He seemed almost happy. Of course, considering what he can do with his 'prosthetic' hand, he certainly bounced back well. I was just curious about how it happened."[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn chuckled. "It's alright. Trust me, I'm just as surprised as you are about how accepting he is about it...." Shaking his head, Taelyrn focused on the answers Viviana wanted.
"I was probably one of the last to get involved with the Baalaose mess, so by no means am I an expert on the whole story. His hand, though....
Baalaose could absorb energy from the area around him, and from people he touched. When he did it to people like Pyrodeus, he absorbed some of their magic, their powers. By the time we were finally prepared to fight him head-on, our options were a bit limited. Our original plan was for Pyrodeus and Cryodivus to restrain him, while I took his head.
By the time we had an opening, though, Cryodivus was busy keeping other enemies off our back, and Visignis stepped in to take his place. He and Pyrodeus got hold of him, and I went in fast and hard, according to plan. Somehow, though...Baalaose managed to break loose, and pulled Visignis into the path of my blade. I tried to pull back, but I only managed to take his hand instead of his life."
Taelyrn sighed again. "That's about all there is to it. After that, Visignis was out of the fight, and within a few hours, the whole thing was over..." Taelyrn paused, his eyes seeming far-away, as though reliving the battle on Mt. Baal. "If there's one thing I regret about coming to Etrah, it's that accident. But Visignis definitely has his father's creativity, and he's made that handicap into a unique strength."
Taelyrn continued to zone out for a moment longer, before shaking it off. "Anyway, as I said, that's about it. Now, if I'm not mistaken, this is your day, after all. Let's start spending Visignis' money, shall we?" A smile crossed his face, accompanied by a quiet chuckle.[/glow]

[glow=purple,1,800]Vivianan smiled. "Good idea," she said, walking into the store. A man in snow camo left in a huff, bumping harshly into her. She gasped in surprise, then turned and looked at the man. Her eyes glowed with purple light for a moment, but then she thought better of it as he walked out the door.
Turning her attention to the racks of dresses, Viviana felt immediately better, and began to browse.[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn's smile shifted to a mildly panicked grimace as he notice the glowing of Viviana's eyes, then shifted to a relieved half-smile. Following her into the store, Taelyrn sighed quietly as he saw Viviana browsing the dresses.
In the back of his mind, foggy memories were coming to light, triggered by this unorthodox shopping trip. He remembered being a child, then a teenager, forced to accompany his mother and sister on similar errands, although never for this particular occasion. Part of him remained aware of his surroundings, enough to stay out of trouble, at least. However, the bulk of him was browsing his memories, in much the same fashion as Viviana now browsed dresses.
Each was precious, and unique, and a treasure in its own right. At least, his memories were. Although only months had gone by since he'd left that life behind, the memories of that life were, quite literally, from another lifetime. He counted himself lucky to find them again, and held onto them tightly.[/glow]

[glow=purple,1,800]Viviana grabbed three dresses off of the rack, and walked toward the dressing room when a petite woman stopped her.[/glow] "Sorry, sweetie," she said, in a comforting but firm tone, "but we only allow the brides-to-be to try on one at a time. A lot of demand for these, and we don't think it's fair to let one lady take a bunch of them at once." She then smiled as she shook her head apologetically. "Sorry, where are my manners? My name's Christie, I'm the owner of this place. Any questions you've got, I'm the one to ask."
[glow=purple,1,800]"My name's Viviana," she said. "Nice to meet you. One question: Did you know Akemi? She's an old friend of mine, and I wanted to say hi to her."[/glow] Christie looked slightly taken aback. "You knew Mommy?" she said. "She just passed a few months back. She was 89, and up until her last day she was working here. Nothing she loved more than to help women be beautiful on their big day." She looked Viviana up and down. "Not that you need much help, dear, I'd kill for your figure."
[glow=purple,1,800]Viviana laughed. "What? Look at you, you're gorgeous."
Two hours flew past as the two chatted, Christie helping Viviana with different dresses until she found the one she knew she had to have.[/glow] "Good choice," Christie said. "Hand made, like all the rest. This one, I made personally. The dress itself is pure Thoncirean silk, the lavender lace I used for the ruffles and veil made locally, too." Christie then looked at the price tag. "Sweetie, I almost hate to tell you this, but the dress is gonna cost you 50,000 coins. Don't worry though, our payment plans are very flexible."
[glow=purple,1,800]Viviana pulled the sack of coins from her pocket, and counted out 50 of the 1,000-coin pieces.
"I got lucky. The man I love just happens to be a billionaire," she said with a cheery smile. Viviana then pulled out 20 more of the coins. "And here's a little something extra. Before you say no, if you don't want to take it, donate it to a charity in Akemi's name."[/glow] Christie's eyes became moist. "Thank you, Viviana," she said. "Mommy would be so flattered. She'd never accept this, you know," Christie added.
[glow=purple,1,800]"No way," Viviana said with a chuckle. "She was way too stubborn for that. But I know how often she donated to that orphanage. Maybe the money would be best spent there."[/glow] Christie nodded. "Okay. Enjoy your big day," she said as Viviana began to walk toward the door. "May your love outlive you."
[glow=purple,1,800]Viviana smiled as she walked up to Taelyrn, who appeared not to have moved since she started talking with Christie.
"Taelyrn?" she asked, touching him lightly on the arm. "You okay?"[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn jumped a little at Viviana's touch on his arm. Last he'd known, Viviana had just started talking to the saleswoman. Now, Viviana appeared to be done shopping, and the saleswoman had a satisfied smile on her face. Apparently, his memories were harder to resist than he'd thought.
He shook his head, clearing his thoughts, then nodded. "I'm fine. Lot on my mind, is all. Everything go alright?"[/glow]

[glow=purple,1,800]Viviana held up the dress, covered by a black garment bag. "Oh, well, you'll see it later," she said, realizing the garment bag was opaque. "Trust me, it's awesome. Best part is, we still have 30,000 coins left. Anything else cool we should buy, as long as we're here in town?"[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn smiled as he led the way to the door. "Nothing comes to mind, but shopping was never a strong suit of mine. If you've got anything in mind, say the word. Today, madame, I suppose I am akin to a personal chaffeur." As he said this, Taelyrn opened the door for Viviana, gesturing through it with an overly dramatic bow.[/glow]
