Apek smiled thinly. "Oh, you've decided to enlist? Great," he said. "Well, let's head back to the base, then. I'll get you started on the paperwork, and we'll get you your gear."
He then looked at Maku. "We'll send a vehicle in two hours to see how you're doing," he said. He looked back at Drixel. "Alright, private Drixel," he said. "Let's move."

Maku smiled and nodded as Apek led Drixel off, somewhat surprised that the angel had enlisted himself. With some amusement, he noted that the list of people he knew could now be rather easily divided into two nearly even halves: those who followed Darzul, and those who did not.
With a sigh, he fell back onto the bed, reclining it to its lowest position. Without people around, it seemed his energy was rapidly waning, and within minutes, he was sound asleep.

After 3 hours of the nanoregrowth apparatus running, the remainder of Maku's steel 'skin' had been fabricated. Priscus Albinnom removed it from the NRA, and caled for Iyov and Marwen to meet him back at room 314 to complete the procedure.
They found the patient asleep. Marwen smiled. "Alright, guys, this kid's had a long day," he whispered. "Let's see if we can finish this without making too much noise."
The three surgeons, naturally led by the bionics expert, began installing the remainder of the microscopic plates.

Maku slept soundly through the procedure, waking just as the surgeons were preparing to leave the room with their equipment. He glanced down at his arm, noting that the previously exposed mechanical workings of his upper arm were now covered, just as his forearm had been before.
He gave a groggy smile, reaching over to hit the button in bring the bed back into a reclining position, giving his head a shake to wake himself up. Glancing up at the clock, he saw he'd been out for about 3 hours, and wondered whether he'd slept through the checkup Apek had mentioned.
As he glanced down at his newly-covered arm, however, Maku only smiled again, and attempted once more to make a fist. The response was nearly the same as the first, little more than a twitching of the fingers, but he noted with excitement that the twitch happened much faster than his first attempt. Suddenly given something to occupy his time, Maku focused on trying, time and again, to make a whole fist.

A nurse walked past Maku's room, and saw him staring at his hand, getting used to his hand. She had to admit, since they started using that polymer coating and microscopic plates to cover up prosthetics, they looked a lot more realistic. The soldier's artificial arm was barely distinguishable from his organic one.
"Hello, Mr...Riskan," she said, looking at his chart. She flipped a few pages over, muttering to herself. "Prosthetic arm with all the trimmings, on the VA ticket..."
She smiled approvingly, setting the clipboard back into its slot at the foot of Maku's bed. "Dr. Marwen signed off on you, Mr. Riskan," she told him. "You're free to go whenever you're ready. A Vorcan Army soldier showed up about an hour ago, said when you were ready to go you had orders to return to the base. He's in the waiting room."

Maku looked up in surprise as the nurse said his name. He'd been so preoccupied with his new arm that he hadn't heard her come in. He'd gotten fist-making down pat, and had started testing the flexibility of his wrist when she'd spoken.
"Alright, thank you very much." Reaching down with his right arm, Maku pulled the sheets aside, swinging his legs over the edge and easing himself into a standing position. His legs were a bit shaky at first, but by the time the nurse walked out of the room, he walked easily over to the room's closet, retrieving his fatigues and changing out of his gown.
As he pulled on his fatigue jacket, Maku noted that the upper left arm of the cloth had been torn in several places. Lightly touching the fabric, he realized the holes were where the rebar had punctured his arm, and also realized the jacket must have been cleaned quite thoroughly; there was not a drop of blood anywhere on the jacket.
Stripping the jacket and the white t-shirt underneath it, Maku quickly used his ability to removes the sleeves from both, and as he pulled on his newly-made tank top and camo vest, Maku sincerely hoped Apek and Darzul wouldn't be too bothered by his modifications to the uniform. He preferred it, both from a comfort standpoint and that of appearance.
Double-checking the room to make sure he didn't leave anything behind, Maku left the gown on the bed before making his way to the waiting room. He found his escort with no trouble, and the two quickly made their way back to the base.
