[glow=gray,2,500]It has been 5 weeks since Leyra's successful transformation, and after some further celebration with Visignis and Viviana, the couple had gone home to make their own preparations. The Warrior Angels remained at the Forge, and Taelyrn had busied himself with Leyra's training.
Of course, after a few fumbled attempts, Taelyrn realized he was a horrible teacher, especially when it came to swordplay. Thankfully, Cryodivus and Pyrodeus had been more than happy to help, and their assistance had allowed Taelyrn to focus on observing her, so he could try and improve his own teaching style to better suit her.
During her spars with the others, it was quickly revealed that Leyra was a natural with the hookswords, though it was unclear whether it was her own aptitude for them, or some transference of Tresdos' terrifying skill. Teaching her was more an act of refining her instincts than teaching her things she didn't already know, and by the second week of her training, she and Taelyrn could consistently fight each other to a standstill, where only their powers could break the stalemate.
They had both decided that it was a sign that her training with the sword was sufficient, and thanked Cryodivus and Pyrodeus for their assistance before setting off on their own. After seeing how Leyra adapted to the elder Angel's teachings, Taelyrn had decided that using her powers would be the best way for her to learn about them, and they quickly settled on a clearing in the Kryll Forest. There, they could practice with their powers without fear of harming anyone else.
Taelyrn himself learned one thing about Leyra's powers very quickly: Inverse Energy hurts. The black energy that Leyra could manifest and manipulate was apparently a complete absence of light, and being struck with it left him feeling drained. Taelyrn made a point of getting out of the way when she was practicing with it.
After a week and a half in the Forest, Taelyrn realized that Leyra had been practicing on her own after she jumped out of his shadow to attack from behind during a sparring match. As with her weapons, her skill with her powers seemed to come so naturally to her, and Taelyrn found that he had very nearly run out of things to teach.
With the past week and a half, Taelyrn had continued their sparring matches, but in between, he'd taught her meditation, and how to communicate with the other Warrior Angels in spirit form. The insight to her mind and emotional state it offered also let Taelyrn glimpse the effects that Tresdos' power were having on her...and to be honest, he was somewhat frightened by what he saw.
When things were quiet, and they were just talking, she was still very much herself. A little more blunt, perhaps, but she was still a kind, easy-to-talk-to person. In battle, however, that all changed.
When she summoned her hookswords, it was like she became a different person. Her mood shifted, her tone became more urgent, more tense. Her strikes were swift, efficient, and if they'd been fighting for real, she'd could have maimed him a dozen times over for now. More than once she'd paused, and he realized the hooks over her blades were in position over his collarbones, or behind his knees, or around his ankles.
She was a brutal, unforgiving whirlwind with the swords, and the part that frightened him was the grin she wore when they sparred. The harder they fought, the wider her grin grew, and more than once after they'd begun using their powers in their spars, she'd burst out laughing, a sound as terrifying as it was beautiful over the clashing of their weapons.
Now, they were breaking their camp, preparing to return to the Forge after 3 weeks in the forest. They agreed that there was nothing more that he could teach, and they were ready to return to the others. Besides, Viviana's due date was approaching, and Taelyrn had every intention of being there for the birth of his godchild, and Leyra insisted on being there for Viviana.
The two women had bonded quickly that day in the Forge, and Taelyrn was glad for that connection. He hoped it would help keep Leyra...well, Leyra. Their time had been filled with fighting, and he regretted that not much time had been spent getting to know the woman he could now freely admit his attraction to (not to her face, of course...not without knowing if she felt the same way).
As he broke down his tent and scattered the ashes of their campfire, it was apparent that Taelyrn was lost in thought on that chilly, autumn afternoon.[/glow]
