*Jay sits on a rock, looking down at the ground, almost hypnotized by the rhythmic ‘Drip, Drip, Drip.’ of falling blood. Red stripes run down the gray stone, mimicking the red gashes that run down Jay’s chest and arms. A particularly large cut runs from jays right elbow down the top of his forearm to a bloody stump where his hand used to be. The empty space is filled with only a the metallic skeleton of a hand. Jays left hand is clenched around a small metallic object. It is the most important object in his life and his only possession. This is sad. Let me explain a how we came to this unfortunate situation.
*Jay, having left the IDPD with none of his things had no weapon, no way of traveling and no way to fix any of the rifts here. He had to think of a way to get back to Haven and get his stuff. He spent the next week or so probing his memory to remember the layout of the IDPD building, the rooms that would be important to access, and their spatial relationship to each other. He would have to move very quickly to get through there without anyone catching him. He really did not like the thought of going there by choice. He didn’t like that they were here and needed to find more information about why they care so much about it. It doesn’t make since for them to focus so much energy on things here when planes are collapsing all the time. It is true that more than one dimension may be in danger through this event, but there must be something in it for them. There always is.
Jay would have to wait until someone came from haven and jump through the portal. This was unfortunately a challenging thing to do without knowing where, or when they will come. Jay figured the only real option was to go to a place where there are lots of rifts and hope that someone came through from Haven to fix them. So jay chose the edge of the forest where there were a large concentration of rifts and he sat and waited, and waited. There was a lot of time to kill and so he spent it jumping through the small rifts that riddled the air. After a week he was able to quickly maneuver through the rifts without getting more than a few scratches. He found a way to stay close to the walls of the plane. A sort of sweet spot where it is much less violent. That combined with the effort from the nanobots kept him same for short trips within the same plane.
Towards the end of the next week the opportunity Jay had been waiting for presented itself. A portal opened and he saw a low ranking IDPD member walk through a portal with a splitter (The term, originated by Jay, for the device that split’s the air to create a rift. It is also used to close them. Which is the porpose that this man planned to use it for)
Jay moved quickly jumping through a rift and jumping out of the closest rift to the IDPD member. Jay grabbed onto the mans left arm as he moved passed and threw the rather light man over his shoulder keeping control of the hand holding the splitter. He stripped the device out of his hand and dropped a knee to the mans chin. After this he jump through the portal, just before it closed automatically. Now came the hard part.
Jay was greeted by two members. Instead of attempting to deal with them he simply made a rift and jumped through it, coming out of a rift in a supply closet. Jay got lucky that it was in the same place as it used to be. Jay took advantage of his luck and grabbed most of what he needed to refine the splitter into a more suitable weapon as well as get a good start on his hover board. He hooked it placed it all on the holster on his back. Jay then heard a sound that meant that his luck had run out.
The door opened and a man walked through. He was rather slender but incredibly muscular. He wore a gray t-shirt and jeans, not at all the official uniform of the IDPD, but jay knew that he was. Jay had trained with him for a short time before being moved into the nano program. In fact he had beat this man, Kaje Viren, for the position in the program. Jay had managed to destroy all of the data on the project as well as most of the lab room, setting the project back years. It appears that they spent a lot of effort to bring the project back. Kaje’s arms had the tell tale metal scars. *
“Whats up Kaje? I see you got into the nano program after all, good for you. Well it was nice meeting up with you, but I really must go. Good luck with all you nanobots and things see ya.”
*Jay attempted to use the splitter but it was knocked from his hand. A quick glance revealed that it was hit by a whip. Normally this sort of weapon would not be entirely frightening, but this particular whip was covered in barbs that seem to be from some sort of large vine. The end of the whip was a curved blade about a foot in length.*
“Sorry Jay. Not as simple as that. I just got an infusion of the new nanobots a few days ago and they seems to be setting in well, I’ve been dying to test out the improvements in strength and speed. They also added muscle tuning and acceleration control to help with accuracy and prevent damage from over exertion. To bad you dropped out of the program so soon. I can put any weapon into my hand and muscle memory kicks in and its like I have used it for years. This has to be my favorite though.”
*A quick flick of his wrist brought the spiked serpent to life, Kaje moved his arm in what seemed like random patterns and the whip curled and tangled in the air. With a quick downward pull the blade slashed across Jays right arm causing a deep gash in his bicep.
Jay could do nothing to stop the attack. The random movements of the whip made it almost impossible to predict what angle the attack would come from. Before Jay could even feel the pain of the first cut, two more were cut onto his left shoulder and thigh. Jay was used to moving around with cuts covering his body and so he was still able to think clearly. He knew he had to get in close to take away Kaje’s advantage. As soon as the blade passed by him the next time he lunged in and wrapped his left arm in the whip. Setting his foot onto Kaje’s chest, he pulled back on the whip and kicked with his foot, both disarming Kaje and sending him backwards. Jay quickly peeled the whip off of his arm and ran to grab the splitter. He cut a rift and jumped in a fast as he could. Unfortunately it wasn’t fast enough.
Kaje staggered backwards and almost feel over, but the nanoboots in his muscles kicked in and he adjusted his balance, taking only a moment to steady himself. He ran forward and grabbed his whip. Lashing it out to its maximum length, the blade digs into Jays forearm. Taking a few steps forward, Kaje spiraled his hand, wrapping the whip around Jays wrist. This prevented jays hand from going through the rift, which caused some rather violent consequences.
Jay was blinded by the pain. He had had plenty of injuries in his life, but having his hand ripped apart from the rest of his body definitely topped the scale. As the shock sets in and the nanobots went to work numbing the pain. They had already began to scar over the wound, but something was wrong. They normally increased blood clotting and prevented cuts from bleeding very much at all, but blood was all but poring from his arms and chest where the metal scars had not closed yet. Jay took a look around and noticed that he had gone to the nanolab and it did appear that they had done a great deal of work putting it back together and upgrading it. As jay surveyed the room he notice something that had definitely not been there before. A set of metal body parts, or at least the skeletons of them sat on a table. Jay walked over to the table and read the notes that were left there. It appeared that the parts would be used to replace lost body parts. The metal would act as scaffolding for the nanobots to create simulated muscle and skin tissue around. Jay picked up a right hand and held it to his stump, noticing that the blade of Kaje’s whip was still stuck into his forarm. He went to set the metal hand down but he could not move it. Upon closer inspection it could be seen that the hand had boded with the exposed bone. Jay spent a moment contemplating the probability of him finding a replacement hand just after loosing his own, but quicky moved on. This hand didn’t even move. He moved his attention back to the blade in his arm. He grabbed it tightly with his left hand and closed his eyes. With a quick pull the blade was out of his arm. Jay put it slightly into the side of his pants and moved over to the containment center for the new nanobots. This was unfortunately much harder to hack into than the security system. Mainly because he didn’t develop it, and also a little because he only had one hand. He was able to open it up and grab one vile before feeling the unmistakable pain of the whip wrap around his ankle and pull him off his feet.*
“why do you even try jay. You act like your on top of the world but you have nothing! You push your way into other worlds pick through their stuff like its yours. You’re the same as the people you hate. You left the IDPD because they march into worlds and do and take what they want, but that’s your life now, except you have nobody and nothing to support you.”
*Kaje let the whip loose of jays ankle and cut a few more small cuts on Jays legs and torso. With only the thorns on the whip it did much less damage, but was still quite destructive.*
“And now your going to die, alone and with nothing. Its not even worth finishing you off. Ill just let you bleed out while your beta stage nanobots try and keep up.”
*Kaje had let his whip come to a rest at his side while he gloated. Jay took advantage of this and threw the blade from his waist at Kaje, also opening a rift on the ground beside him. Jay rolled into the rift as Kaje deflected the blade. The best part of using rifts to travel is that it is much harder to trace where he has gone because the rifts do not connect to each other at any point.
Jay appears back in the forest on Etrah through and already created rift. This would prevent the IDPD from simply finding a rift created shortly after the one on the ground and tracing him that way. Jay walked his way slowly out of the forest, stopping every once and a while to vomit out a new stomach full of blood. The nanobots covered the wounds from the outside, but they were still bleeding into his body and this blood was gathered by the nanobots and purged from his system,
Once jay got out of the forest and rested for a while, he realized a much worse problem with these wounds. The nanobots were running out of material to create scars and prevent the internal and external bleeding. And the loss of blood and exhaustion of the situation was wearing on jay. Jay chose to take a minute and sit down to try and gather himself for a bit. He found a rock, sat down jay took the splitter and removed the tip of the rod, a small piece of red glass like material attached to a metal base. It was about the size of the tip of a human finger, which gave jay an idea. He touched it to the tip of the middle figger of his “new hand” and the finger shifted taking hold of the metal base of the splitter and holding tightly to it. Jay shrugged let his arm rest to his side. He took another look at the vile of nanobots. He had to find out how to get them configured to his body so that he could use them. They may hold the key to stopping his bleeding. His hand clenhed around the vile and he looked down to the rock. A nice red pool was beginning to form and he watched as more of hi blood fell to color the stone. He was quickly lost in the ‘Drip, Drip, Drip’*
