Name: Cassiel
Race: Angel (Fallen)
Age: Unknown (appears to be in mid-to-late 20s)
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 205 lbs
Physical Description: Slim but muscular for his height, with long silver-blue hair and round glasses, covering purple-blue eyes. Wings match hair color, with a 20-foot wingspan when fully spread. However, they are usually hidden beneath black monk's robes, trimmed with silver thread.
Weapons: Cassiel carries a slim sword, not unlike a classic European rapier, but with a sharpened edge along the length of the blade. While not an expert in combat by Heaven's standards, Cassiel is skilled enough to fight on par with most any human swordsman. This sword is hidden, like his wings, underneath his robes.
Equipment: Cassiel's most visible and valuable piece of equipment is the Endless Tome, a slim black book that seems to be filled with blank pages. However, in the hands of an angelic scribe, the book is literally endless. Endless Tomes are given only to high-ranking scribes, and are spiritually linked to their owners. Any angel can write in an Endless Tome, and read what they have written, but the owner of one can access any information recorded in it.
Abilities: Cassiel is gifted with intuitive understanding, an ability to understand the nature of complex systems simply through observation. Cassiel’s ability is limited to supernatural phenomena, including auras, supernatural powers, magic, and the like. In some ways, this ability is similar in function to the 3rd-level Perceiver ability of Second Sight.
Bio: Cassiel was one of the first thousands of angels to be created, and his existence predates that of any of the physical realms. He was created to act as Head Librarian and scribe in the Holy Archives, and was given the tools and abilities to fill that role. He devoted himself to his work, as many of the original angels did, and remained unaware of the chaos that was soon to overtake Heaven.
At some point during his service to the Archives, an archangel called Lucifer came to Cassiel, seeking information about the Spiral Stair, an artifact in the center of Heaven. Cassiel, fulfilling his function as Head Librarian, gave Lucifer the information he wanted, unaware of the angel’s intentions. Within a week’s time, Lucifer had led a faction of angels in a strike against the Spiral Stair, declaring war on Heaven itself.
The attack was a failure, and Lucifer and his followers were cast out from Heaven, into a newly-created realm called Hell. However, many others were cast out along with them, guilty by association with the Lord of Hell. Cassiel was one of these, exiled for giving Lucifer the information he desired in order to orchestrate his futile effort. He was given a diminished sentence, however, exiled not to Hell, but to a young physical realm, called Etrah.
Cassiel has dwelled on Etrah since the First Great Fall, predating the existence of Mankind. He has continued to fulfill his function as scribe, filling his Endless Tome with maps and descriptions of all he has encountered during his time. Of all the living things on Etrah, Cassiel’s knowledge is perhaps the most complete, if a little outdated. Following the break of Heaven and Hell by Arius, many changes have swept across Etrah, and Cassiel has been busy revising his work ever since.
Mindset: Cassiel is a focused academic, cataloguing any new information he encounters. Due to the length of his existence, however, ‘new’ information is hard to come by. As an angel still devoted to his creator, Cassiel tries to live a good life, still hoping, after eons of exile, to be welcomed back to Heaven.
He doesn’t blame Heaven for his exile, fully understanding the decision. Instead, he places the blame fully on Lucifer and the denizens of Hell.
The break of Heaven and Hell, recorded in his book as the Second Great Fall, is of great interest to Cassiel. While he views many of the newly fallen Rogue Angels as immature, he has taken a keen interest in them, using them as a resource to learn of happenings in Heaven since he was cast out.
