Name: Shin (real name Hayato; see bio)
Age: 56 (appears to be in his late teens)
Race: Genetically-altered Human
Dimensions: 5’ 7” tall, 97 lbs
Physical Description: Shin keeps his black hair buzzed short and his face clean-shaven, in keeping with the military traditions of the Oledian Army. Shin’s regular outfit consists of a white hoodie with the sleeves torn off, simple grey cloth pants with a drawstring waist, and pair of black, rubber-soled tabi, reinforced to allow for use as normal footwear without sacrificing footing or mobility. Aside from the simple nature of his clothes, which stand out somewhat in the Unnamed City, where he lives, the only oddity of his attire is the wooden bokken, or training katana, worn on his hip.
Bio: Hayato was born some years before the start of the Etrahn War, in a small farming village in the Oledian countryside. When the War broke out, Hayato quickly became dissatisfied with the quiet, predictable lifestyle his village offered, and lied about his age to join the Oledian military at the age of 16.
A year into his service, Hayato was selected to take part in the Oledian supersoldier program, and became a subject of animal-hybridization testing. His DNA was fused with that of a Gyrfalcon, and, with the aid of experimental drugs being tested at the same time, the experiment with Hayato was a complete success.
Hayato’s speed on the battlefield, his trademark white attire, and his deadly efficiency combined to make him a living legend to both sides, and the Oledian military urged the spreading of tales of the so-called “White Death”.
When the War came to an end, and the Oledian and Reyone armies were disbanded, Hayato returned to his farming village, proud of the work he had done for his country. The townspeople, however, terrified at his unchanged appearance, called him a monster, and Hayato was exiled.
Realizing he couldn’t continue to live his name, Hayato took the name “Shin”, and moved to the Unnamed City. There, he founded a small, secretive group named Echo, dedicated to finding and recovering technology lost during and before the Etrahn War. Echo itself has been operating in secret for the better part of the past 20 years, and they have made great strides in their efforts, as they continue to focus their attention on the potential treasures that lie beneath the Unnamed City’s badly-damaged city
center.
Mindset: Shin believes that knowledge is power, and goes to great lengths to see all sides of an issue before acting. His goals, and those of Echo, are to recover the knowledge lost by Etrah’s long history of warfare, and restore the damaged world to its former glory.
When it comes to battle, Shin’s philosophy is somewhat more relaxed, and, in an effort to redeem himself for the bloodshed he caused as the White Death, Shin goes out of his way to protect those he views as innocent. He has little leniency for thieves, and even less for criminals of a more sinister nature.
Weapons and Abilities: Shin was trained in the fighting style of his village when growing up, a style that emphasizes speed and accuracy over power and brutality. Though the style discourages weapons, Shin has adapted it for use with both a katana, and his unique gifts.
The supersoldier experiments performed on Shin spliced his DNA with that of a falcon, and left him with a number of gifts. These include:
Hollow Bones: Shin’s modified bone structure, in addition to his martial arts training, makes him an extremely swift and agile fighter. His bones are more fragile than those of an average human, but an opponent would have to catch him first, and that particular feat has yet to be achieved.
Accelerated Healing: The experimental drugs used to help Shin through his gene therapy bonded with his altered DNA, speeding up his body’s natural healing processes. While not fast enough to, say, regrow a limb in the heat of a battle, so long as Shin’s head and heart remain attached to his body, any damage done to him will eventually heal.
This heightened healing has the added side effect of slowing Shin’s aging to a near halt, leaving him, at the age of 56, with the body and appearance of a 19-year old.
Sharp TK: In a development that baffled the Oledian gene researchers, the process that altered Shin’s DNA awakened a latent telekinetic potential. Despite numerous attempts at developing the skill, Shin remains unable to use his telekinesis without some sort of physical focus. In a move that lent heavily to his eventual infamy, Shin selected a wooden training katana for his focus, and uses his TK to give the blade a psychic edge far sharper and harder than any traditional weapon.
Years of training have allowed Shin to develop his so-called “Sharp TK” to the point that he can use it to make ranged attacks, sending waves of cutting force far beyond the range of a normal swordsman.
