Maku smirked at Fisher's comment, appreciating the irony that Vance's grappling had led to his own submission. Apek was right to praise the other recruit; he was a challenging opponent, and if he had to fail this test, he was satisfied that Fisher had been the reason why.
He and Fisher observed the sparring on the mat until the day's session ended, discussing the strategies they saw, the different ways each student utilized what they'd been taught. When they were released for the day, Maku headed for his quarters, no longer feeling so apprehensive about his arm. Even if he needed to visit the good Dr. Marwen, it seemed that he'd made something resembling a friend in the process.
//-------------\\
After delaying as long as he dared, Maku resigned himself to alerting Capt. Apek of his need to see Dr. Marwen after all. The loose components weren't seriously damaged, as far as he could tell, but the places where they anchored to the frame of his arm were damaged beyond his maintenance kit's ability to repair.
As he waited on Apek's reply, Maku berated himself for his carelessness. All it had taken was one moment of panic, and he'd rendered himself effectively limbless. Again. And he was honestly getting sick of the experience.

Apek shook his head in mild exasperation. "My god, Riskan, this was a sparring session," he said. "I'm glad you wanted to win so badly and advance, but I know that arm has a lot of strength to it. What the hell did you do to damage that arm so badly you can't patch it up yourself?"

*The air in the room seems to bulge outward a few feet of the ground in front of Maku untill small fingers peel through the air and rip it like a sheet of cloth. out of the small hole, what appears to to be a small brown hairless chimpanzee. It walked around a liitle confused and proceeded to reach out to grab a glass that was left on the coffee table. As soon as its palm makes contact with the glass, it flies across the room and shatters on the wall. startled by this, the creature flails backwards and kicks the table, sending it through the drywall on the ceiling and scattering shards of room stuffs everywhere.*

Apek could only watch as the air in the officers' club literally tore open, a chimp crawling out. The animal promptly swatted Apek's drink across the room before kicking a table into the air, causing chunks of drywall and broken table to rain down in the room.
Apek sprang from his chair, the force of his newly-empowered legs causing him to inadventently leap across the room and easily clear the monkey.

Maku hesitated, trying to word his answer carefully. In short, his powers had escaped his control, but how was he to explain that to Capt. Apek? It seemed that at every turn, some detail he hadn't mentioned was coming round to bite him in the ass, and he knew he wasn't the only one getting sick of it.
Then all hell broke loose; the air in the officer's club tore, dropping some sort of ape int he room, who then began panicking and breaking things in the room. Apek tried to react, but it seemed that he had yet to fully adjust to his newfound strength, and went vaulting across the room.
Swearing under his breath, Maku ran at the ape, his hand balled into a fist as he tried to strike at the smaller creature before it could right itself.

*The punch hits the creature in the chest and knocks the wind out of it. It's skin pushes back at the fist at roughly 500 pounds per square inch. The chimp squeels and rolls over. scrambling to its feet it runs inadvertantly straight at Apek, arms out*

For the briefest of moments, Maku felt his fist sink into the creature, and the sound the ape made suggested it wasn't a minor blow. Then, his world was turned on its head, along with the rest of him, as an immense force shot into his hand, throwing him off the panicked chimp.
As the creature bolted towards Apek, Maku flew to the ground, pivoting to land on his back, his elbow driving directly into the floor. A series of loud crunches resounded from his right, some from the splintering of the hardwood, some from the bones in his hand and elbow as they far-too-suddenly came to a halt.
A bark of pain escaped his throat as his arm fell to his side, and the sharp pains in his arm clouded his senses for a moment. He half-wanted to black out, let some other part of his mind take over for him again. Surely, if he closed his eyes, when he awoke again, he would stand bloody and victorious over this animal, worse for wear but with the immediate danger behind him.

Apek planted his feet, and saw Riskan hit the monkey. The monkey apparently had hit back, but it wasn't obvious how. All the captain knew was that Maku had broken at least one bone, and the monkey, possessing whatever powers it did, was now charging headlong at him.
Alright, let's see you try that against me, Apek thought as he widened his stance, making himself as stable as possible. Once the chimp was within range Apek, aware once more of his new powers, swung with all his might at the animal's gut.

* the force of the punch sends the ape flying back through the air its arms flailing. The nature of its body creates force pushing back at Apek's fist with slightly less force than a car driving at 25 mph. The monkey hits the wall and blows a hole roughly 5 feet in diameter. The monkey stands up and wables around a bit before vomitting blood of the floor and falling back to the ground. Its breathing stops*

The sound of the ape crashing into the wall of the officer's club snapped Maku's attention back to the moment, and he shook his head to try and clear some of the fog his pain had caused. Using his artificial limb for support, Maku shakily found his feet again.
After a momentary scowl at hole in the wall that now held the creature's hopefully lifeless body, Maku turned his attention to Apek. He wasn't sure what the hell had happened when he himself had punched the creature, but he hoped the force that the Captain had delivered to the ape had done the job without hurting Apek himself.

As Apek's fist connected with the creature, he felt its flesh give, if only for a moment, before some sort of force field pushed against Apek with what had to be close to as much force as he had swung at it with.
He deduced his force field theory as he sailed backward, the repulsion of the apelike creature launching him 30 feet backward and causing him to smash through tables and chairs.
Surprisingly unhurt by the impact, Apek stood up and dusted himself off. He looked at the beast that had dropped into the world out of nowhere, now sprawled out in the next room over. Apparently whatever kind of repulsion this chimp was capable of, it worked both ways; the creature had smashed a hole into the wall, and didn't seem to be moving.
Apek then looked around. Maku seemed to be the only person seriously injured, the others in the room only suffering from minor scrapes and ruined afternoons.
"I'm fine, private," he said. "Are you alright? I thought I heard a bone break, but that might have been the monkey."

Maku took a deep breath and tried moving his arm slightly. The shock of pain from his elbow gave him the answer Apek needed. "Elbow took the worst of it, sir. Whatever that thing was, it shot me down hard. Looks like you managed to hit it harder, though. Between the two of you, you're the only one that got back up, sir."

Apek nodded. "Yeah, looks that way." He walked over to the hole in the wall, climbing through. He prodded the ape with his toe, worried that a force field would fling his foot from beneath him.
His toe simply pushed flesh. If it was still alive - a long shot, judging by the lack of breathing and puddle of bloody vomit the creature expelled - it was certainly done fighting.
He looked up at the people in the next room over, all staring stunned at the creature. He pointed to two of them. "You guys, get to the med area and grab a gurney and a medic." He looked back through the wall at Maku. "We'll have that medic take a look at you when they get back here."
A Vorcan Army Medic appeared with the two soldiers a moment later, with a gurney and a bodybag. He approached the creature, and placed two fingers on its neck. He then produced a stethoscope, and shortly after using it he nodded solemnly. "Time of death, 17:23," he announced. "Guys, could you bag him for me and get him on the gurney?"
As the two soldiers began placing the chimp into a body bag, the doctor walked over to Apek, who pointed through the hole in the wall, gesturing to a few banged up people before pointing at Maku.
The doctor climbed through the hole in the wall, and walked up to Maku. "The captain says you may have broken a bone. Mind if I take a look?"

Maku nodded, turning and offering the medic as clear a look at his elbow as he could manage. Moving was painful, to be certain, but he wasn't passing out yet. He just hoped it wasn't broken; he'd had just about enough of being crippled by a shortage in functioning limbs.

As the medic turned and poked at Maku's arm and hand, he nodded to himself, but never said anything. After what had to be at least a full minute of silent diagnosis, the doctor released Maku's organic arm and spoke.
"You have a mild elbow sprain and a dislocated finger," the medic said, producing a gray weave of paracord from his bag, about 5 inches long and 3/4 inch in diameter.
"Ice and rest your elbow and hand, and stretch them - gently - every morning and every night, and you should be healed up within about 2 weeks." He then handed Maku the woven paracord bundle. "I'm gonna put the finger back. You might wanna bite down on this, it's gonna hurt."
