[glow=red,2,500]Blocking Taelyrn's blow with his shield, he saw two tendrils of light coming toward him. He slashed three of them. He had seen this happen to Tresdos, and it looked pretty painless and they grew back.
However, he only struck 3 of 4 tendrils, as an unseen one grasped his wrist.
"Not bad," he said, grasping and yanking on the tenrdril to try to throw Taelyrn off balance.[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn grimaced as he felt three of his tendrils cut by Pyrodeus' sword. It didn't hurt, really, it was just uncomfortable. The momentary distraction allowed Pyrodeus' yank to unbalance him, as Taelyrn fell to the ground.
His shoulder struck first, and he rolled to cushion the mild blow. However, as he rolled, he tightened the tendril on around the God of Fire's wrist, pulling him down, hard.[/glow]

[glow=red,2,500]Unprepared for Taelyrn's counterattack, Pyrodeus was yanked sharply, falling face first to the ground. His sword clanged out of his hand.
He looked at Taelyrn, the sword igniting and flying through the air. It sliced through the tendril before coming to rest in his hand. Pyrodeus jumped to his feet, thrusting the blade at Taelyrn.[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn fell flat on his back just in time to dodge the blade, the heat from the flames just a little too noticeable for him to comfortable with. As soon as the sword was far enough away, Taelyrn rolled to his side, stopping several feet away, his tendrils healing in the sunlight.
Crouching down, Taelyrn's tendrils arched up from his back, curling down so that their tips hung just above the ground. He glanced up, offering a mischevious grin to the God of Fire.[/glow]

[glow=red,2,500]Pyrodeus looked at Taelyrn, crouched near the ground, grinning up at him.
Even as he threw a fireball at the Angel of Light's feet, he couldn't help but smile at the transformation he had gone through. And not just the obvious one from human to Warrior Angel.
When he had first walked to the Forge, Taelyrn had been timid and unsure of himself. Now here he was, going toe to toe with a god, and not batting an eyelash.
Just for good measure, Pyrodeus threw a second fireball, this one aimed at Taelyurn's chest.[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn ducked his head down as Pyrodeus threw the first fireball, his tendrils weaving themselves into a shield before him. However, the first fireball struck low, below the edge of his sheild, throwing Taelyrn off-balance. As he struggled to keep from falling, his wings spread out wide to aid his balance, he took the second fireball directly.
He was blasted backwards, forgetting his efforts to regain his balance as he concerned himself with the area of burned skin on his chest. When he stopped moving, he was leaning somewhat dependently on a rock, looking down at the burn. However, as he watched, the singed flesh seemed to glow momentarily with red light, and heal itself. Looking up, an expression of confusion and mild shock on his face, he noticed that Pyrodeus seemed to be bathed in that same red glow.
It took him a moment, and then he realized what it was. Infrared. I'm seeing infrared light. Makes sense, honestly...heat gives off infrared light. Which means...I can redirect that light, use it against the source!
Taelyrn stood slowly, brushing the dirt and dust from himself as he walked towards Pyrodeus.[/glow]

[glow=red,2,500]Pyrodeus was surprised. "Nice trick with the healing," he said. "It took the rest of us a long time to figure out we could do that."
He saw Taelyrn rise and walk, almost strut, toward him. Pyrodeus knew he had something planned, and couldn't wait to see what it was.
His wings pulled back, then snapped forward, throwing two wing-sized waves of fire at Taelyrn.[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn smiled, the red glow still visible all around Pyrodeus. It intensified when he launched his attack, and Taelyrn took his chance. First, he opened his left hand, palm-down, towards the ground. As he did, some of the red glow leaped from Pyrodeus' attack and surrounded him, turning into a much-more visible white dome as it shifted into visible light.
Then, his shield established, he smiled, feeling that he could still devote some concentration to an offensive. Before, it took all he had to make a shield that quickly. Holding out his right hand, he froze the infrared light of Pyrodeus' attack, trying to shift it into visible light before re-directing it at the God of Fire.
As he watched, the dim red glow changed quickly, morphing through the colors of the spectrum before solidifying into a white band. With a small gesture of his hand, the band flew towards Pyrodeus, just as the remaining fire from the attacked washed over his shield, dimming it momentarily.[/glow]

[glow=red,2,500]Pyrodeus watched in astonishment as Taelyrn took half the energy from his attack, converted it from heat to visible light, and not only used it to block the attack but actually threw it back at him.
A blast of what Pyrodeus could only call solid light slammed into him with remarkable force; considering the amount of energy he put into his attack, this blast hit him easily twice as hard as it should have.
He was tossed backward, hitting the ground with a solid thud, then tumbling several feet, before sprawling out flat on his back. The first thing out of his mouth was loud laughter.
"Kid, you're a natural!" he exclaimed, his wings flapping backward and pushing him to his feet. "You manipulated the infrared light my fire wave was giving off into visible light, and actually threw my own energy right at me. You found your element in your environment, harnessed it, and used it to your advantage. Very Warrior Angel of you."
He cracked his neck. "And you sure threw it hard," he added. "We learned something important there: light moves fast. A little bit goes a long way with that solid light you were slinging, Taelyrn."[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn watched Pyrodeus get thrown by his attack, dropping his shield as the older Warrior Angel flew to his feet. He smiled at Pyrodeus' exclamation, taking a deep breath and reforming his wings.
"Well, you know me. Play the defensive until something comes to me, then go all-out. How I've done it since day one, and it's still working for me now."[/glow]

[glow=red,2,500]Pyrodeus nodded. "It can only work better now," he said. "By now I'm sure you've noticed that in addition to your new powers of light manipulation, you're physically stronger and faster than you ever were."
He turned around, opening the Forge doors, and then turned back to Taelyrn. "The shifting of the infrared to light was pretty impressive, too. I know infrared is pretty similar to visible light, but with enough practice you might just be able to span the entire electromagnetic spectrum."
Pyrodeus walked toward the Forge. "And believe me," he added, "I've been to the sun. I've seen what gamma rays can do, and it ain't pretty."[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn followed Pyrodeus back into the Forge, squinting as he saw the amount of infrared light coming out of the Forge. With a little concentration, his eyes adjusted, blocking out infrared once more.
"You know, I get what Visignis said, now, about 'geeking out'. This might sound a little egotistical, but I've never been so anxious to discover my own potential. I thought that the amount of energy I left in the sword would be significant, but after I took it back, I barely felt a difference at all. That in itself shows just how much more energy I have, compared to before.
All in all, I can't say I regret a single thing. I mean, dying hurt, alot, but...to be this? I feel as if I haven't done enough to deserve it."[/glow]

[glow=red,2,500]Pyrodeus spun instantly to face Taelyrn, and glared at him, his gaze almost seeming to burn through Taelyrn.
"Don't deserve it? You listen to me, boy," Pyrodeus told him, a quiet but powerful anger in his voice. "You died. Just give that a moment to sink in: you died. Not only were you given your life back, but God saw fit to bring you back to the mortal coil as a Warrior Angel. Most of the original Warrior Angels died, and they stayed that way."
Pyrodeus then appeared to be more calm. "What you did literally saved Etrah," he said in a much more measured tone, "and probably countless other planes as well. You were given these powers because you commited an act of heroism on a cosmic scale. Tresdos stole his Warrior Angel powers, and the eight of us originals were born that way. But you, Taelyrn? You earned the right to be called Warrior Angel. Never forget that."[/glow]

[glow=white,1,500]Taelyrn was speechless. He'd never seen Pyrodeus react like that, to anything, or anyone. Granted, he'd only known him for a few weeks during his life, but still, such a reaction...Taelyrn could have sworn that the temperature had jumped.
He had never thought of his death that way. God Himself had called it a sacrifice, yet it took Pyrodeus' anger to truly put it in perspective. This power...hell, this life, that he had been given...it was not meant to be taken for granted. Remembering what he had learned during his time in Heaven, he felt a shiver run down his spine. Tresdos had taken his power for granted. He didn't need to ask to know how that turned out.
Swallowing hard, Taelyrn spoke, his voice quiet, and apologetic. "I'm...I'm sorry, Pyrodeus. I...I never thought of it that way. This has all happened so quickly. My actions against Baalaose were instinctive, almost...I never thought about why I was doing it. I just knew it had to be done...it almost felt easy, that way.
Because of that...I felt unworthy of this. That's what I meant...now, taking it for granted, I feel even less deserving."
Taelyrn shook his head, looking to Pyrodeus with determination in his eyes. Speaking again, his voice shared in that determination. "But...I'm done taking this for granted. I still don't feel as if I've truly earned this, but...I will. On the memory of our fallen brothers, Pyrodeus, I promise you that."[/glow]

[glow=red,2,500]"On the memory of our fallen brothers," Pyrodeus repeated somberly. "Firstly, you acknowledge that Silexops, Gisichros, and the others aren't just my brothers. They are our brothers. That's a big step forward in and of itself."
"Second, an oath made on angelic blood is not to be taken lightly." Pyrodeus then smiled. "But I know you'll honor your word. All you need is time."[/glow]
