Darzul pulled into the militia base. After a short song and dance at the checkpoint, he parked the SUV back where he had found it.
"Is Sargeant Simpson at base?" Darzul asked aloud, to anyone within earshot.
"Right here, sir," Simpson said, walking up to Darzul.
Darzul promptly punched him in the gut, causing Simpson to double over, clutching his midsection and gasping for breath.
"You wanna know why I did that?" Darzul said, leaning down to bring his head to the level of Simpson's. "Because you told me the west emergency exit at Thoncir General had a busted alarm. Private Mesozoic and I used that very exit, and the damn alarm went off. In our case, no harm and no foul. But bad intel can get men killed, Sargeant."
Simpson caught his breath, and stood at attention. "Sorry, sir," he proclaimed.
Darzul placed a hand on the sargeant's shoulder. "Like I said, no harm, no foul," he said, far more calm. "I was simply making a point."
"Point taken, Colonel," Simpson replied.
Darzul nodded, smiling. "At ease, sargeant." He then walked toward the mess hall. "Private Meso, grab some chow," he said offhand. "Then, we have an hour of downtime. I'm gonna get a little sleep in, and I suggest you do the same. After that, we're off to the motorpool."

[glow=brown,2,000]Ariska had been walking through town, keeping an eye out for anything suspicious, anything that would have been linked to the late rift activity. There wasn't. As far as she could see, everything was as normal as any person could ask them to be.
Then she took not of a vehicle pulling into a rather large building. There hadn't been too many moving vehicles that she'd seen since she'd been on this plane. that meant that these people had some sort of technology. Rushing to the building, she witnessed the scene of what seemed to be the leader scolding a subordinate. Unfortunately, she'd been so distracted by the scene that she was ambushed, the barrel of an antique gun to her back. Ariska slowly raised her hands, showing that she meant no harm. The man holding the gun still shouted something to his friends, though.[/glow]

"Colonel, we have an intruder!" a guard shouted, his Carbine pointed at Ariska's back.
Darzul turned around, and saw a woman wearing some kind of uniform.
"Well, you're almost certainly military," he said, walking slowly toward her. "But you're definitely not Reyone Army. Name and rank, soldier," Darzul demanded.

[glow=brown,2,000]Military? She was laughing inside. Sure, the IDPD was comparable in concept to any 'military' this world could build up, but it was much, much more than just a military. "My name is Ariska Deluive," she responded with a slight smirk, "My rank is of no matter. I do not come here on harsh terms. I am merely scouting the area, as per my mission." No doubt, that would raise questions. She'd just have to answer them preemptively. "I come from a place very far from here. A small team, including myself has been assembled and sent out to discover the source behind recent disturbances in the world."[/glow]

Darzul saw that private Deluive - if she wouldn't divulge her rank, he would assume the worst - was armed only with a sword. She seemed to know about the demons that had plagued the city. The militia had fought them off admirably, until one day the problem seemingly solved itself. A warehouse filled with rotting demon corpses was found during a patrol of the docks a few days later.
"When you say you're from far away, you don't mean the other island, do you, Deluive?" he asked Ariska.

[glow=white,5,600]A four winged figure landed near the standoff. Coryn had been flying above, searching for what he'd been informed of by his visitors at the hospital. They'd said the southern part of the city, which this area was, and a militant group of some sort. This fit the bill pretty much exactly. Sure enough, there was the man who'd informed him, addressing a woman who seemed to be an intruder. He started toward this man, folding his wings behind his back.
"I never got the chance to thank you," he said. The closer he got, the more he realized something. This man looked very familiar. "Pardon the strange question, but have we met before?" He paused. "Before meeting at the hospital, that is."[/glow]

[glow=brown,2,000]The question caught her slightly off guard. It seemed these primitives were smarter than she'd expected. Still, there was no need to divulge critical information. "No," she answered his question simply. He did not inquire about the rest of the truth, and would therefore not receive it.
She watched some manner of winged being approach the man who'd addressed her. It seemed rather odd, that this person could do such without concern for the current situation. Ariska glanced over her shoulder, at the man with the gun. "I hate to be a bother, but could you call off your guard? I've found that I rather there not be some manner of projectile readied to be pushed through my skull."[/glow]

Darzul looked at Coryn. "You know, I got that same feeling when Mesozoic and I picked you up," he said. "My name's Vorca, Darzul Vorca. Formerly of the Reyone Army," he added, this second sentiment leaving a bad taste in his mouth. "I was a colonel when they dissolved, and a..." Darzul paused before saying more. Divulging anything about the supersoldier experiments in front of Deluive struck him as a bad idea. "And a damn good one, in spite of the bogus dishonorable discharge they slapped me with."
Darzul then heard Ariska's question. Some manner of projectile? he thought to himself. It's called a bullet, lady, and you're awfully cavalier about being hit by one. He then remembered that at least one of the snipers on the roof was probably trained on her anyway.
"Alright, Corporal, stand down," he said to the soldier behind Ariska. "Return to your post."
"Yes, sir," the corporal replied, turning around and taking up his post at the gate again.
Darzul then looked back at Ariska. "You're armed very light, even for a recon mission," he said. "Care to explain a bit more about why you're here and who sent you?"

*Greg and Blake crested a small hill about 400 yards from the others. they had been following the four winged figure which was easy considering he was flying and had four wings. Blake pulled out some small binoculars and looked through them.*
'That's Ariska over there shes in trouble pull out your Griess and monitor the situation.'
*A Greiss is a type of sniper rifle that uses a rather short barrel compared to other rifles. Efficient construction and a unique firing mechanism using magnetic rails allows it to have outstanding accuracy while being almost entirely silent. It can clearly observe anything within a thousand yards through the use of its electronic scope. Its effective firing range is about 2000 yards. As Greg brought the scope to his eye He saw a sniper that was most likely trained on Ariska. Next, he attempted to ready his finger to prepare for a shot if one needed to be taken, however what he succeeded in doing was shooting the sniper in the head. Blake immediately protested.*
'I said MONITOR! what the hell man? You just put Ariska's life and our positions at risk.'
*Greg was apologetic as always:* "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'll take out the rest of them. This thing is semi-automatic."
*Blake replied quickly:* 'NO. Just keep watching. Only fire if Ariska is in direct danger or if some one points a gun our way. Fuckin A man!'
*Greg carefully trained his eye on Darzul. He had dismissed the other soldier and so it would be assumed he was in charge.*
*Blake Decided it would be a good idea to fill Ariska in: * 'Ariska, this is Blake me and Greg are in a support position. Umm... im not sure if you've noticed the sniper we took out, but a.. we got him. I mean I didn't want Greg to but he did, so i guess its done. that all.'

"Incoming fire!" a corporal on the roof shouted, looking through a spotting scope. "Attention Base, incoming fire," rang through the speakers a few seconds after the outcry. "Repeat, incoming fire. Assume code 2 lockdown."
Darzul drew his pistol and pointed it at Ariska's head. As the gate leading into the base slammed closed, he glanced at the corporal who had had Ariska at gunpoint earlier.
"Corporal, I want a flyby of the area where the incoming came from as soon as we have an estimate," he said. "Keep me posted."
"Yes, sir," the corporal said before entering a large building near the motorpool.
Darzul's gaze then fell upon Ariska. "If that's your team out there, shooting at my base..." Darzul trailed off, the anger in his voice almost palpable. Technically, Ariska hadn't done anything, so he couldn't kill her in good conscience. But whoever it was that was shooting? If any of his men were hurt, Darzul damn sure wouldn't guarantee that guy's safety.

[glow=brown,2,000]Ariska let loose a small sigh of relief, as the barrel against her head was removed. Unfortunately, the ease she'd be able to enjoy was taken away instantly. As soon as the man asked her another question, she heard the faint sound of a projectile collision. It was the sound of a bullet penetrating a soft body, more than likely one of his guards. Not a second later, her right ear, the one with the small earpiece, was flooded with an argument between Blake and Greg. She began fuming that they had been referring to her so casually. It was common knowledge that higher ranking officers should never hear their first name coming from a lower rank's voice. On top of that, they had severely complicated things for her.
After Blake issued his small brief, Ariska remembered why she'd questioned Artemis' choice of Greg. The man was useless. Sure, he could shoot, but that didn't make up for his clumsy behavior. She placed her arms up once more, starting past the barrel, and locking eyes on the man holding the side arm. "I assure you," she said, remaining mostly calm, with a hint of frustrated rage, "My life is in just as much danger as yours, and those of your men."[/glow]

Darzul holstered his sidearm. "Then get inside, before you get hit, too."
"A code 2 lockdown means incoming ballistic fire only," he said. "Unknown assailant. Almost always means sniper fire," he told her, using a keycard to open a door leading into the main compound. "We get as many people as possible to safety, and lock the base down."
Darzul looked at Ariska. "You'll have to surrender that sword for the duration of the lockdown, I'm afraid," he said. "No civilians can bring weapons into the compound."

[glow=white,5,600]Coryn began toward the closing doors. He didn't have time to second guess, and it would be better to go along with the act, for now. Slipping inside, he slowed his pace considerably. For a moment, he stared at the people collected. The name, Darzul Vorca was familiar. He would have a few questions for the man when he came in.[/glow]

[glow=brown,2,000]With a sigh, Ariska began walking toward the complex, following the strange, four-winged figure. Beneath the mask of seeming disgust, she was fuming. Those bastards had fucked this up more than they could ever realize, and she would do everything in her power to see that they got serious reprimands, at least, when they returned to Haven. As she passed Darzul, she unstrapped her weapon from her waist, shoving it into his chest. For a moment, she halted, staring the man directly in the eyes. The mask subsided briefly, allowing her fury to shine through. "If anything happens to my sword," she muttered, "I will personally remove your head."
Loosing her grip on the weapon, the facade regrew. The female officer continued walking into the complex. Once inside, she sighed, looking at the ground as she leaned against a wall.[/glow]
Yuriev had been watching from a nearby apartment complex, having found a vacant flat. Seeing as he wasn't equipped for attacking at such a distance, he could do nothing. All he could do was sit back, and watch through his surveillance goggles. However, when the Captain gave up her sword, he could no longer do so. "Hey you guys," he commanded into his comm, "Stop fucking around. Either finish the job or fucking hide. You don't think they'll just take a casualty lying down do you?" Watching Captain Deluive waltz into the complex, he groaned. "Great. Just fucking great. Now they've got her as a hostage. Well, I suppose someone should radio Artemis. He's probably out of discussion range by now."

*As Yuriev suggested he finnish the job Greg was glad to comply. He shot two more snipers on the roof. There were no more that he could see. It wasnt't till afeter this that the second part or Yuriev's statment regestered in his mind. It was a little late for hiding now. He lowered his aim and took out one guard on the ground before steadying his sight one the door. They were too close together to risk taking a shot, and additionally Greg had no information on what was inside. Blake attempted to contact Artemis to request further instructions.* [Sir, This is blake, we have a situation. Corperal deluive has been taken into a military complex. Her weapon was taken. We have compomised their security but are not equiped for a rescue. Requesting instruction on further action. Yuriev is present as well.]
